How an enquiry is handled

The same five steps whether you are asking about a line we already make or asking us to make something to your own specification.

  1. You tell us what you are looking for

In writing, with as much of the detail below as you have. A short, specific message is worth more than a long general one.

  2. We read it against what we actually do

If it is outside the work described on this site, we say so rather than string it out.

  3. We come back with questions or a specification

Meat and cut, recipe, weight and count, pack format, labelling and the documentation the product has to carry.

  4. Everything is confirmed in writing

Specification, quantity, availability, price and the basis of supply. Nothing is treated as agreed until that confirmation exists.

  5. The order is placed against that confirmation

The written confirmation is what the order is measured against, not anything said on this website or over the phone.

Before you write

What to put in the enquiry

You will get a faster and more useful answer if the first message covers most of this. Anything you do not know yet, leave out and say so.

  • The buying company: trading name, registered name and company number if they differ, and the invoice address.
  • Which of the four buyer types you are — retailer, caterer, wholesaler or manufacturer.
  • The product: what it is, the meat or poultry involved, and the cut or preparation if you know it.
  • Whether you are working to your own specification or asking us to propose one.
  • Format: pack, weight or count, and case configuration if it matters to you.
  • Labelling and documentation the product has to carry for your own customers.
  • Roughly what quantity you are talking about, and whether it is one-off or repeating.
  • A named contact and a direct way of reaching them.

What we will not do by return. We will not confirm a price, a quantity or an availability before we have read the specification, and we will not put a delivery arrangement in writing before the order itself is agreed. If an enquiry needs a firm answer on a particular day, say so in the message.

Enquiries we cannot help with

So you do not waste a message: we do not supply households or individuals; we do not sell single retail packs; and we do not take enquiries that assume terms, pricing or timescales we have not quoted. Anything outside the registered activities set out on the what we do page is not work we take on.
